San Bernardino Cal Fire crews show preparedness for wildfires
Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit inmate hand crews and full-time and seasonal firefighters demonstrated their preparedness for the height of the year-round wildfire season in an exercise Thursday, May 17, in the San Bernardino Mountains community of Cedar Glen.
They were timed and scored in manning their tools, a 3.6-mile hike, digging a 6-foot-wide line in the brush, laying down and using fire hoses and deploying their fire shelters at the Forest Lawn Scout Reservation.
The exercise is required annually by the state to certify the firefighters as ready to battle wildfires. Cal Fire’s Riverside Unit plans a similar event for May 21
