MADISON (WKOW) — Firefighters from all over Wisconsin will be in Madison Sunday for the funeral of firefighter Todd Mahoney.
There is a visitation at Door Creek Church at 3 p.m. The funeral is at 6 p.m.
Mahoney was rescued from the water at 8:52 a.m. during the swim portion of the half IRONMAN last Sunday. Rescuers tried lifesaving attempts continued as he was transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
Mahoney fought for his life over the next 48 hours, but passed away Tuesday at the hospital.
He was a nine-year veteran of the Madison Fire Department, most recently serving as an apparatus engineer at Fire Station 1 in downtown Madison and occasional chief’s aide for Command Car 31.
He previously served at Fire Station 9 on Midvale Boulevard, and he was a paramedic at Fire Station 8 on Lien Road. He began his career as a firefighter in 2010.
He is survived by his wife and three young sons.
