Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit inmate hand crews and full-time and seasonal firefighters demonstrated their\u00a0preparedness for the height of the year-round wildfire season in an exercise Thursday, May 17, in the San Bernardino Mountains community of Cedar Glen.<\/p>\n

They were timed and scored in manning their tools, a 3.6-mile hike, digging a 6-foot-wide line in the brush, laying down and using fire hoses and deploying their fire shelters at the Forest Lawn Scout Reservation.<\/p>\n

The exercise is required annually by the state to certify the firefighters as ready to battle wildfires. Cal Fire\u2019s Riverside Unit plans a similar event for May 21<\/p>\n
